Below are photos of wildlife that we have recently captured and removed from homes right here in Bradley County!

Wildlife Exclusion and Removal

Each year I receive an increasing number of calls from distraught homeowners who have a wild animal taking up residence in their attic, crawl space or walls! Sometimes it is a squirrel, a opossum, a raccoon, a muskrat, a skunk or even a snake.

Wild Animals Are Dangerous!

Many homeowners have tried to remove these animals themselves, without the proper protective gear and techniques, and have been severely bitten or scratched. One lady recently tried to scare a raccon off of her screened porch. The raccoon attacked and she was severely scratched. She required 22 stitches and a round of painful rabies vaccinations!

They Can Also Do Considerable Damage To Your Home!

They can gnaw on electrical wires, potentially causing a fire. They damage heating and air ductwork, damage your insulation. They can also contaminate your home with their feces and urine. We specialize in making your HVAC unit "Wildlife Proof" In the area where the ductwork enters the structure from the exterior unit, the installers typically place a sheet metal cover over the exposed ductwork. Any animal
that goes under the sheet metal where it meets the ground has easy access to the entire crawl space. I have seen all kinds of animals nest in these areas. I have also seen them tear into the duct work and do costly damage. This not only reduces the efficiency of the unit it also spreads the animals odor throughout the home. This can be from the animals fur, to feces and urine. In some cases skunks have been known to do this and you can imagine how bad that smells. In some extreme cases the homeowner has had to move out and have the home deodorized.

WE CAN MAKE YOUR HOME
"WILDLIFE PROOF"!

We will find all possible entry points! We look for areas where burrowing has occured. We look for damaged soffits, eaves, loose guttering, damaged shingles and poorly fitting crawl space entry doors. We can repair these areas for you, or you can do it yourself. If we find an entry site under the HVAC unit, we dig down around the unit and place concrete slabs 12 inches into the ground extending up over the edge of the sheet metal. We will then pack the soil firmly around the slabs. This will stop the animals from being able to enter and will prevent them from being able to dig beneath the unit. In some cases we actually mix up concrete and pour into the areas, should the cast slabs are ineffective.

This Is A Permanent Solution!

As we continue to build homes and develop neighborhoods further into the forests and country side, we are moving into their domain.Without question, we are going to continue to have wildlife move into our homes. Wild animals adapt over time and become very comfortable feeding on garbage and pet food, rather than their natural food sources. Also, it is easier for them to make a home in your crawl space or attic than it is to dug out a burrow or find a hollow spot in a tree.

How Do You Get Them OUT and Keep them OUT?

The first thing we do is to identify what type of animal you have and where it is gaining access. We look for all possible access points. We have methods of collecting tracks and identifying the animal and then follow it's nightly foraging paths. We then formulate an action plan to exclude the animal and prevent it from re-entering the structure. If it is inside, we then set a trap and catch it. Many times it is necessary to trap the animal and remove it even after we exclude it to make sure it does not find or make another way in.

Humane Treatment

We never harm an animal unless it is absolutely necessary! We relocate almost all of the animals we capture into the wild in a remote area in Polk County, unless they are injured or appear to be rabid. The traps we use do not injure the animals! We do not leave the animals in the traps for an excessive period of time, we typically check the traps daily, except on weekends. However, if the homeowner notices we have a "catch" they can notify us and we will return and remove the animal immediately.
